Speaking In Tongues was the groundbreaking fifth album released in 1983, by the American New Wave band Taking Heads. Everyone who likes good music should listen to this album. This was one of the best (if not THE best) New Wave album ever.

But the Talking Heads were not just a pure New Wave band because they created their music in a bunch of different genres funk, dance, world music, pop, disco, you name it. And Speaking In Tongues contains some of the of the finest bass work ever, by Tina Weymouth.

Where were you in 1983? Some of you reading this were probably not even born yet. I had just gotten out of High School, got married (too young), and began my first year of art school. My wife (now ex) came with instructions, a lot of instructions. And my biggest challenge was learning how to sculpt using stone, marble, and metal (it always ended up looking worse than the lump I started with).

I remember going to parties during that time and listening to this album. This is my favorite Talking Heads album. Every song on the album was so cool and the sound was so original, nobody sounded like them. Nobody could touch them. It was so different than anything I had ever heard before.

This version was ripped from the original LP, which sounds better than the CD and faithfully keeps the structure of the original songs which were changed in the CD version. If you were around during those years, you'd know an LP sounds richer and warmer than a CD (as long as you have a decent turntable). A turntable that plays LP's is strictly analog. An LP has a groove carved into it that mirrors the original sound's waveform. The turntable then transforms this groove to an analogue sound signal which can be fed into an amplifier. In this process, no information can be lost. No snapshots need to be taken and the sound doesn't need be converted to one of the possible 65,536 values. There is basically is an infinite number of 'snapshots' and 'possible values'.
