In the year 1980, a secret military organization named SHADO (Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organisation)
becomes operational.Its purpose is to defend the Earth from Aliens who've been coming to Earth and kidnapping humans.
It is believed that these Aliens are a dying race, and are transplanting human body parts to extend their own lifespans.
SHADO's main headquarters is hidden beneath a film studio near London England. SHADO also has a base on the moon (Moonbase)
and a fleet of submarines (Skydiver). Incoming UFO's are initially detected by an Earth orbiting satellite named SID (Space Intruder Detector).
An initial interception attempt is made in space with three Interceptor craft launched from Moonbase. A second attempt is made in the Earth's atmosphere with a fighter plane (Sky One) launched from Skydiver. Landed UFO's are tracked down with ground Mobiles.
SHADO is run by the extremely dedicated Commander Ed Straker, and is overseen by General James Henderson.
Straker's seconds in command are Col. Alec Freeman, Col. Paul Foster, and Col. Virginia Lake.
Moonbase is often commanded by Lt. Gay Ellis or Lt. Nina Barry.
Skydiver is often commanded by Capt. Peter Carlin or Capt. Lew Waterman.

Computer Affair
An Interceptor is destroyed when it collides with a UFO, and Straker orders the responsible personel to SHADO HQ for questioning and psycho-analytic tests. The computerized results of these tests reveal that Lt. Ellis diverted the Interceptors in the incorrect order due to an emotional attachment between herself and Interceptor pilot Mark Bradley. Straker grounds Ellis, despite strong objections from Freeman. The UFO, which is at first lost in a radar blind spot, is later relocated and shot down by Sky One. The UFO crash lands in a Canadian forest, and Freeman is assigned to track it down using the mobiles. Despite the computers findings, Freeman assigns both Ellis and Bradley as part of his team. Will Lt. Ellis' judgment be affected again?

Flight Path
SHADO member Paul Roper is being blackmailed by a traitorous SHADO medic to provide information to the Aliens. He initially refuses, but when he fears for his wife's safety, he complies. Straker puts him under surveilance after his stress levels are revealed to be alarmingly high during a routine SHADO medical check. Roper is caught giving information out over the phone, which is later discovered to be a flight path which will allow a UFO to approach Moonbase undetected due to interference from the Sun. In order to "even the score", Roper volunteers to defend Moonbase himself. But what are his chances,
alone on the lunar surface and armed only with a handheld rocket launcher?

During a UFO interception by Sky One, an experimental test plane crashes because it was too close to the explosion. The co-pilot is killed, but pilot
Paul Foster survives. He tries to convince his boss and an investigator that he saw a UFO, but the evidence doesn't back up his story. He begins to investigate what he believes to be a cover up, aided by the sister of the dead co-pilot. His investigation leads him to Commander Straker, who agrees

Conflict
Straker believes that orbiting space junk is a hazard to SHADO operations, and demands that General Henderson fund a program to eliminate it.
A SHADO lunar module is then destroyed during Earth reentry by an Alien device which steepens the module's reentry flightpath angle. However,
Henderson is convinced that the accident was pilot error, and puts a ban on all lunar flights. Col. Foster violates the ban to prove that the accident
was not pilot error. He survives his encounter with the Alien device by starting at a very shallow reentry angle. Straker then orders all three Interceptors
to destroy suspected pieces of space junk which an Alien device may be hiding in. However, while the Earth is left undefended, a UFO is sighted and its
target is SHADO headquarters!

Survival
A UFO lands on the moon under the cover of a meteor shower. An Alien approaches Moonbase on foot and shoots out a window, causing an explosive decompression which kills a SHADO operative. After a search, the UFO is discovered in a nearb y crater, and two teams in moon mobiles go to investigate. When the UFO opens fire, the Interceptors are sent in. While Foster is on his way to get a moon mobile, he is injured and his radio disabled.
The Interceptors destroy the UFO and it crashes nearb y, destroying a moon mobile. Foster is presumed dead, but he is in fact still alive, as is an Alien.
After initial mistrust, the two join together to try and survive the walk back to Moonbase. But will they?

The Dalotek Affair
Moonbase suddenly experiences periodic unexplained communication blackouts. Col. Foster suspects it may be due to interference from the "Dalotek" base which has been temporarily setup nearb y. However, after interrogating the team and checking the equipment, everything seems to be in order. Nevertheless, Foster sets up a landline to communicate with the base, and begins flirting with its female team member Jane Carson. A subsequent blackout occurs during a lunar module landing attempt, which causes the module to crash and kills the crew. Foster blames the Dalotek base and disables the only piece of equipment capable of causing the blackouts. However, this does not work either, as another blackout later occurs as a UFO is coming in for an attack!

A Question of Priorities
Straker's son Johnny is hit by a car shortly after Straker returns him to his ex-wife Mary. At the hospital it is determined that Johnny requires antibiotics,
but cannot take any because he is allergic. Straker orders a SHADO transporter to immediately deliver an experimental new anti-allergenic antibiotic from
New York. Meanwhile, a UFO crashes near Ireland, but an Alien survives in an escape pod and sets up a transmitter in the home of an elderly blind woman. SHADO picks up these transmissions, and Freeman diverts the transporter plane carrying the antibiotics to investigate. Straker hides his concern for his son when he discovers this, and his ex-wife is horrified when she hears that something more important has delayed the drugs. Is the Alien trying to co-operate with SHADO, and will Straker's son die because the Alien takes priority?

Ordeal
Hungover and exhausted from a party the night before, Col. Foster reports for a scheduled fitness program at the SHADO health farm. While relaxing
in the sauna, Aliens invade the building and kidnap Foster. He is taken aboard their ship, put in an Alien uniform, and converted over to liquid breathing.
As the UFO escapes, Captain Waterman in Sky One is unable to shoot down it down, as he knows Foster is aboard. However, he does damage it to the point where it cannot escape the lunar gravity, and it eventually crashes on the Moon. Miraculously, Foster survives the crash and is taken back to Moonbase. However, he is still breathing liquid -- will the Moonbase staff and its crude medical facilities be able to convert him back to normal breathing without killing him?

The Responsiblity Seat
Acting in his cover as a film studio executive, Straker is interviewed by a Miss Josephine Fraser. Miss Fraser accidentally leaves her purse and tape recorder behind after the interview ends, but later retrieves them. Straker suspects that some SHADO communications may have been recorded onto her tape, and after discovering she is not with the press he decides to track her down himself, leaving Col. Freeman in command. After a struggle and a car chase, Straker finally gets the tape, but then starts becoming attracted to her. Meanwhile, Col. Freeman is having a difficult time in charge of SHADO, as a UFO sighting turns out to be a weather balloon, and a Russian lunar surface vehicle is out of control on a collision course with Moonbase!

The Square Triangle
When an incoming UFO is found to be heading for England, Straker allows it through in the hopes of capturing it intact. However, before a search team can get to the landing location, the UFO explodes and a lone Alien wanders off in the night forest. Nearb y, a woman and her lover are conspiring to shoot her husband when he arrives at a vacation cottage that night. However, as the front door is opened, the wife ends up shooting the Alien instead. The SHADO search team arrives and the couple is taken away to SHADO HQ, where they are given an amnesia drug which erases their memory of the incident. Meanwhile, as Col. Foster is investigating the house, the husband arrives and Foster figures out the lovers plan. What should SHADO do about the couple, who will obviously try to kill the husband again if let free?

Court Martial
Details about a Skydiver refueling schedule is leaked to the press, and the evidence points to Paul Foster as being the source. Although Foster denies the allegations, a military trial is convened. During the proceedings, it is established that no one but Foster could have leaked the information. Foster is found guilty of espionage and sentenced to death. Straker and Freeman do not believe that Foster is guilty, so they start their own investigation after one of the studio's film directors accuses Foster of leaking information about a new piece of film equipment. They discover that Foster's apartment has been bugged, and start searching for the responsible party. However they may be too late, as Foster has escaped and security has orders to shoot on sight!

Experiments with a new telescopic camera reveal that highly detailed shots of the Earth can be taken from far away in space. Straker then successfully gets funding for a project which will attempt to follow a UFO back to its home planet and transmit back detailed photos of the surface. A space probe is launched and outfitted with the camera in lunar orbit. The next incoming UFO is diverted back home using the Interceptors, and the probe follows it. Several months later, the probe reaches the Alien planet and transmits photos back to SHADO. What do the photographs reveal about the Aliens?

A SHADO operative's wife has just given birth, which causes Straker to remember the events leading up the birth of his own son. Flashing back 10 years, Ed and Mary Straker are happy newlyweds. John Croxley is a man with a very unusual problem -- he is able to read other people's minds, and it is driving both him and his wife crazy! While driving home from his psychiatrist, he is stopped by SHADO personel who have sealed off the area due to an incoming UFO. The UFO crash lands into Croxley's house, killing his wife and injuring Col. Foster in a nearb y mobile. In the hospital, Foster worries that he is being watched. Later, Straker receives what appears to be a film script, but instead it is a detailed description of SHADO. This was sent by Croxley, who has been reading Foster's mind in the hospital. Straker and Freeman visits Croxley's psychiatrist and learn of Croxley's E.S.P. They are told to meet Croxley in the ruins of his house, however, when they arrive, it is obvious that Croxley has been taken over by the Aliens and intends to kill them!

Kill Straker!
A UFO approaches a reentering lunar module piloted by Col. Foster and Capt. Craig, and implants an urge for them to kill Straker. Back on Moonbase, Foster becomes unusually critical of Straker. Capt. Craig unsuccessfully attempts to kill Straker in his sleep, and then tries to blow up Moonbase's air and water supplies. Foster then sends a critical report on Straker to General Henderson, which leads to a confrontation between Straker and Foster in the Moonbase Control sphere. Foster pulls a gun, a bullet punctures the sphere, and the two pass out from a lack of oxygen. On Earth, Foster's urge to kill Straker is discovered under hypnosis. Will Foster have to be eliminated?

Sub-Smash
An underwater UFO destroys a ship in the Atlantic. Straker takes the best available sub crew to investigate on Skydiver. During the search, the UFO attacks and Skydiver is seriously damaged. The UFO escapes into the atmosphere, but Sky One is able to launch and destroy it. The rest of Skydiver sinks and comes to rest on an undersea ledge. The crew begins to abandon ship, however the damage has forced them to leave one at a time through a single, barely working escape hatch which requires 90 minutes to recycle. Nina Barry tries an alternate escape tube, but it fails. Two of the crew members escape to a rescue plane on the surface, and one dies of injuries. Will Straker and Barry be able to escape before the air supply runs runs out?

The Sound of Silence
A UFO avoids interception by following a NASA space probe back to Earth. As SHADO searches for the landed UFO in a wooded area of England, an Alien spies on show jumper Russ Stone and his sister Anne at their nearb y farm. A hippie who is camped out on their land is killed by the Alien. Russ then mysteriously dissappears, and the missing person report leads Col. Foster to investigate. Foster suspects that the UFO is hiding at the bottom of a nearb y lake after Anne points out how unusually quiet the wildlife is there. The Mobiles are brought in, and after firing a few depth charges the UFO surfaces to fight. The UFO is destroyed, but a large cylinder survives -- is it a bomb which will detonate when taken back to SHADO HQ?

The Cat with ten Lives
On the drive home from an evening with friends, Interceptor pilot James Regan and his wife are attacked by Aliens when they stop for a cat in the road. Regan's wife is abducted, but he is left behind. The cat which follows Regan back to SHADO HQ is under Alien control, and is able to manipulate Regan from a distance. Although still distraught, Regan is ordered back to Interceptor duty, but when the cat prevents him from destroying the UFO containing his wife, he is replaced by Col. Foster. Regan then knocks out Foster and fools SHADO members into thinking he has replaced Foster for an Interceptor escort of a space probe. During the escort, Regan breaks formation and puts his Interceptor on a collision course with Moonbase!

Destruction
A UFO is reportedly shot down by a navy ship. Straker investigates, as he fears the Aliens have found a way to escape detection. Skydiver searches for wreckage, but the ocean is too deep at that point. A navy admiral refuses to give details of the incident or the ship's mission, so Straker investigates his secretary. They discover that the secretary is sending messages to the Aliens via a special telescope in her apartment. The navy ship is sent out to sea again, so Straker tells the admiral that whatever their mission is, the Aliens know about it. The admiral admits that they are disposing of a highly toxic nerve gas, and if the ship were attacked, all life on Earth would be destroyed!

The Man Who Came Back
During a UFO attack, SID is disabled and a reentering spacecraft piloted by Captain Craig Collins dissappears. When Collins is discovered on an island weeks later, Straker immediately assigns him to the SID repair mission. However, Col. Lake and Col. Grey both notice that Collins' behavior is different than it was before. Grey recommends that Collins be dropped from the mission, but does not have enough proof to convince Straker. During training, Collins injures co-pilot Foster, and insists that Straker is the only person qualified to replace him on such short notice. Once in space, Straker realizes that Grey was right -- Collins is under Alien control and plans to kill him!

The Psychobombs
A UFO lands in England, and hypnotically controls 3 people nearb y - Linda Simmons, Daniel Clark, and Carl Mason. Miss Simmons then strangles a policeman with superhuman strength given to her by the UFO. Clark then attacks Commander Straker in his car, and gives him a written ultimatum that a SHADO tracking station, Skydiver 3, and SHADO HQ will be destroyed if they do not cease operations immediately. Sure enough, Clark breaks into the tracking station, and when he grabs some high voltage power cables, the station explodes. Mason then similarly destroys Skydiver 3 after getting past security. Due to the report of the strangled policeman near Clark and Mason's homes, Foster is sent to investigate Miss Simmons. He then brings her to SHADO HQ -- the next target for destruction!

Reflections in the Water
A freighter is sunk in the North Atlantic by what is reported as "flying fish". Straker sends Skydiver to investigate, and they discover a UFO and a giant underwater dome. Straker and Foster put on scuba gear and investigate the outside of the dome, and through a small opening see SHADO Lt. Anderson inside. Returning to SHADO HQ, they find Lt. Anderson and interrogate him. Anderson denies any knowledge of an underwater dome, even under the influence of a truth serum. Straker and Foster return to the dome, and inside discover a maze of hallways and finally a room which contains an exact duplication of SHADO HQ and its personel. Straker realizes it's an Alien plan to override normal HQ communications and let through a massive UFO attack -- but does he have enough time to stop it?

Timelash
Straker and Col. Lake are attacked by a UFO while driving to SHADO HQ. When they arrive they find that night has turned into day, and that everything at the studio and SHADO HQ is frozen in time. They then discover a traitorous SHADO operative, Turner, who is working with the Aliens and caused the time freeze using a device hidden in SHADO HQ. Straker and Lake attempt to kill Turner, but cannot because he is able to jump back and forth in time. A UFO approaches, and Straker gets a rocket launcher to try and destroy it, but Turner steals the key and knocks out Lake. What can Straker do to stop Turner and prevent the Aliens from taking over?

Mindbender
After a UFO inexplicably self-destructs near Moonbase, a member of the debris search team begins hallucinating, and believes that all of his fellow Moonbase personel are Mexican banditos trying to kill him. After fistfights and a shootout, he is killed. Later in SHADO HQ, another operative undergoes similar hallucinations, this time seeing Aliens. After two deaths and Col. Lake being held hostage, Straker is forced to kill him as well. Later, in an argument with General Henderson, Straker suddenly starts hallucinating himself, and is now an actor playing Straker in a television series!

The Long Sleep
A UFO investigation is reopened when a young woman, Catherine Fraser, awakens from a ten year coma. In the hospital, Catherine tells Straker that she ran away from home, met someone named Tim, travelled to an abandoned farmhouse, and discovered Aliens installing a device into the ground. While on LSD, they playfully stole a piece of the device, and Tim died jumping off the farmhouse roof. However, Catherine can not remember where the farmhouse is, or what happened to the piece of the device, which Straker believes to be a bomb. Catherine is secretly visited by Tim, who was brought back to life by the Aliens. After being injected with an Alien syrum, Catherine remembers where she left the missing piece. Now Straker and Foster must find the farmhouse and deactivate the bomb, or all of London will be destroyed!
