![]() Slayer�s DVD Still Reigning is a perfect recreation of what it is like to go to a typical Slayer show. It�s dark, chaotic, filled with screaming and when the lights come up, everyone (that was in the pit) is covered in blood. What is different about this show is that when the house lights go up, it is the band drenched in red.
Still Reigning is a recording of Slayer�s set in Augusta, ME from July 2004. Needless to say, it was a special set. A complete Slayer with Dave Lombardo back behind the kit flawlessly recreated the entire Reign In Blood album on stage in front of a packed venue. The 1986 release is one of the benchmarks of the metal genre that has withstood the test of time and, thanks to the current state of world affairs, is as relevant as ever. From the blistering of �Angel Of Death� to the steady assault of �Criminally Insane�, Slayer proves on Still Reigning that they remain the purveyors of hell�s soundtrack. Oh yeah, and as the famous opening riff of �Raining Blood� filled that air, so did �real� blood (the closest theatrical proxy). As the four horsemen of Slayer viciously tear into their signature tune they do so with rivulets of blood pouring down drenching them. It is something must be seen, as it is truly amazing.
The icing on the cake is that the DVD also features live performances of six of the band�s other tunes (including �South Of Heaven�) and a mini-documentary where the band tells about how they came together followed by a behind the scenes look at the Augusta show.
For those fans not lucky enough to be at that show (or the Fall 2004 Jagermeister tour where the band recreated the bloodbath), this DVD is a absolute must purchase � hell, this should be part of every metal fans collection. --americanrecordings.com |
