Engulf The World In Frozen Flames:

The instrumentals encountered in here can give a chill or two, because they can realistically make you feel like you are in plain winter, absorbing the falling snowflakes of an ordinary cold day. On the other side, the fast songs between the instrumentals and the slow ones make you feel like you�ve lighted a fire and you are appreciating the warmness of the short lasting firewood, almost overwhelmed by the never-ending air frost. I should add the fact that every single track is very well executed and the sound quality is way much better than their previous release, �The Azrael�. There are some great riffs played in here and, surprise, they do not sound all the same; in fact I should say most of them are pretty original demonstrating why the group is known for their amazing jam sessions. The guitars do a great job with some admirable melodies and as I said they create an atmosphere that transports into a middle of a Winter in a Scandinavian country. The bass also contributes for a heavy feeling of the sound itself, making the atmosphere more believable, following the guitars with its unique rhythm sometimes. Joao Pedro does his part in the battery without drawing too much attention; he simply accomplishes his task flawlessly. The whole album is full of originality, as the tracks may confirm, after all they try to avoid the typical scheme �riff, chorus, riff, chorus, solo (or breakdown), chorus� and that�s something praiseworthy that indicates the evolution of the band as a whole.

Broken Distance - Hardcore Punk

It goes without saying that you should never judge a book by it's cover. Most often publishers try to sell a very poorly written story with a beautiful cover. And things happen the other way around as well. So I do know the cover of a record doesn't always so much about the music. Still the 'Hourglass' 7" by Portugal's' Broken Distance is the exception to that rule. The artwork consists of two main ingredients. Generic, and always great, live pictures of the crowd singingalong, guitarists jumping and fingerpointing action. The other ingredient is more 'Background'- era American Nightmare. Coffee stains, torn notes, handwriting. You know the deal. So what does that say of Broken Distances' music? Well, the band consists of ex- Pointing Finger members and comes close to the missing link between Carry On's youth crew period and the darkness of the 'Life Less Plagued' full length. It's not one hundred percent posicore. But it's also not exactly the Boston sound made famous by American Nightmare and Panic. Lyricwise the same can be said. Lyrics are more personal than on your average youth crew record, but they are not as vague and -look at me trying to be poetic, i listen to the Smiths- as can be found on similar records by bands trying to copy American Nightmare. I loved American Nightmare when they were around, and I loathe most copycats around today. But Broken Distance manages to not fall in the latter category by maintaining a sound of their own, a sound quite original and a sound that should get kids back on track. Because the bottom line is this band plays hardcore and most Trustkill/Deathwish bands obviously don't. With Go It Alone out of the picture Broken Distance might be the band carrying on that flame.

Censurados(*) - Punk Rock(One of the firsts Portuguese Punk Rock Bands)

Censurados was first born in 1988 on Lisbon, the original members were Jo�o Ribas, Orlando Cohen, Samuel Palitos and Fred Valsassina. All the lyrics by Censurados are strong, direct, simple that translated the sentiment by the Cavacism youth(Republican Party). Their first virtual registry was in vinyl called "Feedback 001", really strong tittles, taking down the socciety(that was coming from a dictator, Salazar). The release of the album "Censurados" in 1990, was an historic mark for Portuguese Punk Rock and the album also got a good review in the top fanzine(at the time) dedicated to Punk Rock, Maximum Rockn'Roll (EUA). In 1991 Censurados brings the 2nd album, "Confus�o" and after soo many years in the road, in 1993 "Sopa" was edited. In 1994 Censurados broke up, because the only and the first thing that got them to be unique and special, their independence of MTV or front covers, was gone.

It is advisable to define the universe of If Lucy Fell, we would say that the band hover around some of the minimalism of Cult Of Luna, the technique of Blood Brothers, the chaos of Converge or the experimentalism of These Arms Are Snakes. A more attentive hearing, also shows a sonic harshness that certainly Steve Albini and his Shellac would not fingered out. Or the groove contagious from one state into the sonic Liars! But do not spend much time labeling, because on songs like "Silk" or "Something Complicated" the intros give rise to a feeling of levitation, this apparent peace rapidly gives rise to a controlled chaos, which is constantly pushed to the limits by Makoto vocalist. "You Make Me Nervous" is a permanent fight between a battery with destructive bucolic sprinkling of sensitivity, a low terpidance, a charge that guitar riffs drawing inspiration from the dream world of Giger and a voice whispers to us repeatedly that there is no tomorrow! All these sensations double the intensity when they are implemented, without masks or techniques of catering, on tage, starting a metamorphosis that last (almost) as much as the eight minutes of the theme "Escapist" which closes "You make me nervous." No need to ask permission to start the frenetic dance to the sound of "You Make Me Nervous" but the warning is: this is a highly infectious virus!

According to the work If Lucy Fell (ILF), almost three years after the acclaimed "You Make Me Nervous, an album that has to have distribution in England with very positive critical and two tours of land by Her Majesty, also in Europe passing by Spain, France, Germany etc. However, with the beginning of a career so vivid, and the bar is set well high for the second album. And is not easy writing about "Zebra Dance". The mathcore the band is anything but conventional. Possibly less extreme in both the compositions and in the vocal, but very rich in sounds, minimalist and experimental environments. And there are times when it seems that Black Sabbath returned from the 70's to play jazz! With the inclusion of a new element, the keyboarded Joao Pereira, to the ILF, more secure and need to create your mathcore with African influences. Note that this influences, are particularly in "Dolores". At other times it's the trip-hop of The Gathering in that devastates the mind. Basically, this is an extremely well managed, with a diversity and a rich and interesting rhythm album. A final note for the curious: "Marie Antoinette", "Dolores", and "Sam Lady", "What If She Fell", "She Lives, She Dies", four themes that discuss women. Unusual, in fact.

Fitacola is a group of friends, that one day in 2003 in Coimbra, remembered to form a band in the garage and "playing at musicians", imitating the idols who the always admired. The project was still in tune to "play" and fun until 2005, when the band started to train. Since then, what began as a joke to friends, left out of the garage. Concerts began to emerge and reactions, very positive, to their performance. Fitacola is characterized by a sound young. A rebellious attitude and uncomformable in life, and a strong posture on stage. The letters, always in Portuguese, always contain a message of action, positivism, trying to fight what they consider was wrong in society, representing the youth and a generation that uses the voice of Fitacola to prove that this is not a "crapy generation", and their objectives, value and willingness to act and change what is wrong. This characteristic of humility and charisma of the band explains the great popularity that the band reaches in the youngest and pre-university students. The band is regarded as a model and example of healthy and active attitude towards life by a growing number of fans, who sees them self in their lyrics, musics and attitude. 2008 was marked with the release of the album "Mudno Perfeito", presented with a tour of four days, in Lisbon, Coimbra, Faro and Sesimbra. 2008 was also marked by a change in the formation, which remained the same since 2005. Pedro Pinho (former and current White Lie singer of The Alphabets) was replaced in Libelinha.
