[RS com] Half-Life 2 + Portal - Steam games 4 free

Here is the how to how you can use the Steam to download your games.

1. You will need steam and some tools, so download this here: ~2MB
Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/174661073/Steam.rar

2. Install steam, make the account if you don't have it (you can use your real account). Install the Steam on the disk where you have the space.

3. Now install Steam Shortcut from the tools I gave you (SteamShortcut.msi)
This will gve you two free games to download (Half-Life 2 Lostcoast & Deathmatch) (If you want just portal, install only portal: the first slice and you don't need step 3, & if you want only Half-Life 2 without episodes install only lostcoast)

4. Go to games directory and install Half-Life 2 Demo & if you want Portal install Portal: The first slice (those demos are free)
This will give you the files neccesary 4 playing those games.

5. Your demos should be now complete. Close Steam (I mean close - must not bee seen in tray), and install and run CFToolbox.exe from tools. Under preferences add new account & add your account. You can add your real one (I didn't have any problems), but I suggest to use fake acc.

6. Under GCF/NCF tab you have the .gcf files for your games. If not this folder is in your installed Steam under steamapps. There you can see your files "half-life 2 content.gcf" and "portal content.gcf" are not complete. Right click, download resume and it will download the whole file. (You don't need the toolbox any more)

7. Now you only need to install the games. In folder steamapps create directory like "Portal" or "Half-Life 2". In there you must put the binaries for your game. Half-life 2 uses source engine binaries, and Portal uses 2007 binaries. That means you need to open with GCFScape.exe in your tools "source engine.gcf" (for Half-Life) and "base source 2007 binaries.gcf" (for Portal) and extract into thet folder "bin" folder and "hl2.exe" Now you need too extract "gameinfo.txt" from content gcf files. These files need to be in the same folder they are in the gcf file. If you want the gameinfo for the Half-Life 2, you need to open "half-life 2 content.gcf" and under folder "hl2" you find the gameinfo.txt and you have to extract it to your folder you made like \steamapps\Half-Life 2\hl2. For Portal is the same: portal contet.gcf under folder portal, and must be put in portal/portal folder.

8. Now just copy and paste the files in SteamEmu in your tools. To run the games, make the shortcut on your hl2.exe the one with your game, and right click properties. Under shortcut tab, under target after everything it is written, add " -steam -game hl2 -appid 220" for half-life 2 and " -steam -game portal -appid 400" for portal. Run the shortcuts and enjoy the games.

9. If you want the games in another language use steam and add loscoast for Half-life 2 for your language and Portal the first slice for portal. This will download the neccesary files for different languages. Now you only need to open rev.ini file in your game (the one from steamEmu) and change the language. Do that by setting Language=English into for example Language=French.

10. For playing episode one or two, you will need some additional files. For episode one you will need binaries that come from deathmatch (base source bnaries 2.gcf), and extra you will need files that you can't get from steam for free, but you can download them from torrents or rapishare. These files are: episode 1 shared.gcf & half-life 2 episode one.gcf. For episode two, you will need binaries that come from portal, and a lot of files. (See them below). The setup is similar as below, only you will also need to extract the video files under episodic/media for ep1 and from ep2/media in the content gcfs for apropriate game.

Here is the list of gcf files you need for each game, and the source engine each game has. You will see you get the most of the files from demos and free games. I will try to upload the needed files for ep1 & 2 but don't count on it. If someone can upload it will put the files in this post so everyone can download.
