For those users, who want to jailbreak and unlock their iphone 2g and jailbreak iphone 3g's 2.2 firmware, follow these steps.
Note: You have to be on the 2.1 firmware first to start off with, as you may get many error, if you are updating right from 2.0, but if you are already on the 2.2. firmware, you can continue on with quickpwn right away.

First off, backup your iphone data usng itunes, which might take a while.
Next download the 2.2 firmware, as you will surely need it.

Go in itunes, hold shift and click restore, and choose this firmware file, after extracting the rar files which you've just downloaded.
After its been updated and itunes reads it, itunes will ask you if you want to set it up as a new phone or as the one with the same setting you had before updating.
Obviously, you're own your own for this. (Most people will pick their backup file from the drop down menu, so you can have the same contacts, settings etc. as you had before)
Now download QuickPWN 2.2 from:

Run it, connect your iphone through usb, and then after QuickPWN recognizes your iphone, it should then ask you for the firmware file. Choose this same 2.2 firmware file which you have download from the above link.
Follow through the steps and you will successfully have either your iPhone 2G jailbreaked and unlocked or iPhone 3g just jailreaked, as there are no official unlock software for iphone 3g so far.
*Don't forget to install cydia and installer as well, trust me they are worth it. You will be able to install any application from the app store for free. To do this follow the steps below

If your phone has been successfully been jail broken, you are now able to install almost every application from the appstore for free using this method.
Firstly make sure you have the following;
�iPhone/iPod touch
�Jailbroken 2.x firmware
�Cydia
�Safari download plugin from cydia
Ok now add a new source to cydia and type;
cydia.hackulo.us
Then once refreshed you will see new apps appear.
From the hackulo source, download in this order using cydia,
the patch for mobile installation, and Installous.
Once downloaded you can use Appshare to browse and download ipa's straight to your iPhone and then use Installous to install them.
NEW! TO UNLOCK YOUR IPHONE 3G, go in cydia (which means your iphone should be jailbroken first) and add the source:
apt9.yellowsn0w.com
