Wild Gift is the second album by X. In 2003, the album was ranked number 334 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
In a review published in his "Consumer Guide" column, Robert Christgau gave Wild Gift a rare A+ rating, writing that "hippies couldn't understand jealousy because they believed in universal love; punks can't understand it because they believe sex is a doomed reflex of existentially discrete monads. As X-Catholics obsessed with a guilt they can't accept and committed to a subculture that gives them no peace, Exene and John Doe are prey to both misconceptions, and their struggle with them is thrilling and edifying...Who knows whether the insightful ministrations of their guitarist will prove as therapeutic for them as for you and me, but I say trust a bohemian bearing gifts. How often do we get a great love album and a great punk album in the same package?"
Christgau was not alone in his enthusiasm; when The Village Voice held their Pazz & Jop Critics Poll for 1981, Wild Gift was ranked at #2, right behind Sandinista! by the Clash.
Wild Gift was remastered and reissued in 2001 by Rhino Records, with seven bonus tracks.

X - Under The Big Black Sun (1982)

Under the Big Black Sun is the third album by the band X, as their major-label (Elektra Records) debut. It was reissued with bonus tracks by Rhino Records in 2001.
The album was listed by band member Exene Cervenka as her favorite X album. Much of the material, including the album's title track, was written in the aftermath of the tragic, untimely death of Cervenka's sister Mireille (Mary) in an automobile accident. The stark black & white cover art was also a reflection of the mood of the band, particularly Ms. Cervenka, during this difficult and painful time.
The overall sound of the record still contains the hard-edged, fast-paced punk rock that became the band's trademark, but a more country and blues sound had also emerged from the mournful period. The album even contains a rare X slow song, "Come Back to Me," done in a 50s "doo-wop" style that is, once again, a tribute to Mary Cervenka. A fast-paced version of Lead Belly's song "Dancing with Tears in My Eyes" with a country-swing style that the band had never before or since emulated, was also a tribute to Mary.

More Fun in the New World is the fourth album by the band X. It was reissued with four bonus tracks by Rhino Records in 2002.
The sound on this album was more polished than their previous efforts, Los Angeles, Wild Gift, & Under The Big Black Sun. Many of the band's loyal fan base from their ealiest L.A.-area gigging days were disappointed, feeling the band had taken a more commercial approach. The overall sound of the album, particularly the vocals of singers John Doe & Exene Cervenka, however, had excelled, and the record has received critical praise from some fans and from records reviewers, particularly Rolling Stone and Playboy, who had long been stalwart supporters and fans of X and their sound.
