This is going to be a large detailed thread on ALL major windows releases. Since I have a rather slow internet connection, it is going to take a while to get all of them up here. My Goal is one OS a day. However, some days I am busier than others so it may take a while longer than expected. The order is: 1.0, 3.1, 95, 98, 2K, ME, Neptune, XP, Longhorn, Vista, 7. When all of those are done(or maybe a bit before) I will upload Office, including: Office 97, Office XP, Office 2003, Office 2007 and Office 2010 Technical preview. After all of these are uploaded I plan on going onto versions such as Vortex XP, Tablet XP, Tiny XP, Vista Black Edition, Tiny Vista, and Gamers Vista.

Windows 1.0:
Image
Windows 1.0 is a 16-bit graphical operating environment that was released on 20 November 1985.[1] It was Microsoft's first attempt to implement a multi-tasking graphical user interface-based operating environment on the PC platform. Windows 1.0 was the very first version of Windows launched. It was made in a pathetic attempt to catch up to Mac's release of the first Icon based OS. It Still operated mostly through DOS commands but added a visual theme to it. To boot into 1.0, the user would turn on the computer which would start MS DOS, then they would run the boot.exe and begin the boot sequence, though now it is very well hidden under the thick interface Windows has, this same process is still used everytime you turn on your computer. Most modern computer cannot run Windows 1.0 because of its primitive color system and programming.

Windows 3.1:
Image
Windows 3.1x is a series of operating systems produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers. The series began with Windows 3.1, which was vended first during March 1992 as a successor to Windows 3.0. Further editions were released between 1992 and 1994 until the series was superseded by Windows 95. 3.1 was a mjor improvement from the less than ready 1.0 that was used by very few. Windows 3.1 was made using a completely new kernel but was still to primitive to have a start button to organize programs. It did however introduce the taskbar for storing windows and an improved theme.
Image

Start off by making a partition on your HDD atleast 80MB with the FAT filesystem (I reccomend using Partition Magic 8). NOT FAT32 because Windows 3.1 doesn't recognize that type.

Then boot the CD not from Windows but from your computer start up. Press F12 or Esc to choose Boot from CD-ROM or something similair.

Follow instructions and choose your new partition when it asks where you want to install Windows on. Installation should be pretty damn quick (took 47 secs to install on mine).

Then configure some stuff like resolution (don't ask me how to do that) and printers if possible and other stuff. There's tons of drivers and system files out there made specifically for Windows 3.1. Look on google and you'll find USB drivers to DVD drive identifiers which actually let you write on DVD's and CD's.

Some of you are also going to download this and open the ISO and assume that this is a fake because there is not boot folder. Trust me that it's there but hidden.

Windows 95:
Image
Windows 95 is a consumer-oriented graphical user interface-based operating system. It was released on August 24, 1995 by Microsoft and was a significant progression from the company's previous Windows products. During development it was referred to as Windows 4.0 or by the internal codename Windows Chicago. The first step towards todays windows we use today, it was once again designed on a completely new kernel and allowed for major changes. The Jump from 3.1 to 95 is large and has many compatibility issues. 95 was the first to automatically boot and the first to have a start menu.

Windows 98:
Image
Windows 98 (codenamed Memphis) is a graphical operating system released on 25 June 1998 by Microsoft and the successor to Windows 95. Like its predecessor, it is a hybrid 16-bit/32-bit monolithic product based on MS-DOS. Windows 98 was succeeded by Windows Me on 14 September 2000. Windows 98 was a continuation of Windows 95. It was built upon the same kernel as 95 but was loaded with tons of new features and a much more user friendly appeal.

Windows ME:
Image
Windows Millennium Edition, or Windows Me (IPA pronunciation: [miː], [ɛm iː]), is a hybrid 16-bit/32-bit graphical operating system released on 14 September 2000 byMicrosoft.[2] It was originally codenamed Millennium. This version of Windows was the first version of windows made specifically to draw in home users. It featured Internet Explorer 5.5 and Windows Media Player, both new and special features to the windows field. Though it was attractive to home users it was greatly disliked by the previous users of Windows because it used a new and unique boot kernel and internal kernel. This wide spread dislike lead to the release of Windows 2000(AKA WIN2K).

Windows 2000:
Image

Windows 2000 is a line of operating systems produced by Microsoft for use on business desktops, notebook computers, and servers. Released on February 17, 2000,[3] it was the successor to Windows NT 4.0, and is the final release of Microsoft Windows to display the "Windows NT" designation. It was succeeded by Windows XP for desktop systems in October 2001 and Windows Server 2003 for servers in April 2003. Windows 2000 allowed widespread communication of different computers through the new server technology released with it.

Windows Neptune:
Image
Windows Neptune was a beta version of Microsoft Windows that was in development from early 1999 to early 2000. The goal was to create a home user-friendly operating system from the same sources as the NT-based Windows 2000 that was developed for business users, replacing the older DOS-based Windows 9x home user operating systems. After the release of Windows 2000, the Neptune team was combined with the Windows 2000 team to work on Whistler, later released in the fourth quarter of 2001 asWindows XP,[1] and Microsoft released another home user DOS-based operating system called Windows Me. Important updates in Neptune were the first signs of a GUI login, such as in XP and later. Also, another large attempt at home use, a goal that was to have at least one windows computer per household, which was held off until XP.

Windows XP:
Image
Windows XP is a line of operating systems produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers, including home and business desktops, notebook computers, and media centers. The name "XP" is short for "experience".[3] Windows XP is the successor to both Windows 2000 Professional and Windows Me, and is the first consumer-oriented operating system produced by Microsoft to be built on the Windows NT kernel andarchitecture. Windows XP was first released on 25 October 2001, and over 400 million copies were in use in January 2006, according to an estimate in that month by an IDCanalyst.[4] It was succeeded by Windows Vista, which was released to volume license customers on 8 November 2006, and worldwide to the general public on 30 January 2007.

Windows Longhorn:
Image
Windows Longhorn was another failed beta stage between XP and Vista. It was a continuation of XP for a while but then was built upon a redesigned aero kernel that then became Vista. It was the first to have the desktop gadgets which was the side bar that is on the left side of the Desktop. There were two major versions: Build 3681 and Build 4008. I will be uploading Build 4008 now and 3681 later.

Image
For Longhorn Build 4008 to work you have to change your BIOS date to 2/19/03. Do this by going to your BIOS by pressing escape or F1 or something similar while turning your computer on and change the date. Longhorn will not install without the date being correct. Then, instructions are the same as everything else.

Windows Vista:
Image
Windows Vista is a line of operating systems developed by Microsoft for use onpersonal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, tablet PCs, andmedia center PCs. Prior to its announcement on July 22, 2005, Windows Vista was known by its codename "Longhorn."[3] Development was completed on November 8, 2006; over the following three months it was released in stages to computer hardware and software manufacturers, business customers, and retail channels. On January 30, 2007, it was released worldwide,[4] and was made available for purchase and download from Microsoft's website.[5] The release of Windows Vista came more than five years after the introduction of its predecessor, Windows XP, the longest time span between successive releases of Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems. When Vista was released there was a widespread dislike because of the slowness because of the new features. This dislike called for a new and better OS to be released, known as Windows 7.

Windows 7 (formerly codenamed Blackcomb and Vienna) is an upcoming version of Microsoft Windows, a series of operating systems produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, tablet PCs, netbooks and media center PCs.[1] Microsoft has stated that it plans to release Windows 7, "in time for the holiday season" of 2009,[2] less than three years after the general availability of its predecessor, Windows Vista. Its server counterpart, Windows Server 2008 R2, is slated for release around the same time.

Office XP:
Image
Microsoft Office XP (Office 10.0 aka Office 2002), released in conjunction with Windows XP, is a major upgrade with numerous enhancements and changes. Office XP introduced the Safe Mode feature. It allows applications such as Outlook to boot when it might otherwise fail. Safe Mode enables Office to detect and either repair or bypass the source of the problem, such as a corrupted registry or a misbehaving add-in. Smart tag is a technology delivered with Office XP. Some smart tags operate based on user activity, such as helping with typing errors. These smart tags are supplied with the products, and are not programmable. For developers, though, there is the ability to create custom smart tags. In Office XP, custom smart tags could work only in Word and Excel. Microsoft Office XP includes integrated voice command and text dictation capabilities, as well as handwriting recognition. Another feature introduced with Office XP is Product Activation, which is also implemented in Windows XP (and later versions of Windows and Office).
Office XP is the last version to support Windows 98, ME and NT 4.0. Office XP is also the earliest Office reported to work well with Windows Vista - however Outlook 2002 (XP) does have some serious problems with Vista such as not remembering email account passwords.

Microsoft Office 2007 (Office 12.0) was released in 2007. It includes Groove, a collaborative software application.[7] Office 2007 contains a number of new features, the most notable of which is the entirely new graphical user interface called the Fluent User InterfaceMusic (initially referred to as the Ribbon UI), replacing the menus and toolbars that have been the cornerstone of Office since its inception with a tabbed toolbar, known as the Ribbon. Microsoft revealed the "Ribbon" UI used on new Office versions on March 9, 2006 at CeBIT, Germany.[9]
Office 2007 requires Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or 3, Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 or higher, or Windows Vista.[10]
On May 21, 2008, Microsoft announced that Office 2007 Service Pack 2 will add native support for the OpenDocument Format.[11] The EUannounced it is going to investigate Microsoft Office OpenDocument Format support.[12]
